ENGINEERING PROJECT LEADER

About the Job: We are seeking a motivated and experienced Engineering Project Leader to spearhead research and development initiatives for our NASCAR Cup Series team. This role is critical to improving on-track performance through innovation, precise engineering, and effective team management. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a deep understanding of race car systems and subsystems, a strong technical background, and leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Research & Development:

  • Lead projects focused on enhancing car performance through innovative design and engineering.

  • Develop and execute test plans to evaluate and optimize components and systems.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify performance improvement opportunities.

Root Cause Analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth investigations into component and system failures.

  • Develop solutions to prevent recurrence and enhance reliability.

Design & Engineering:

  • Utilize CAD tools to design new or modified car components and subsystems.

  • Oversee the development, setup, and operation of test rigs for validation purposes.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage a small team of up to five designers, project engineers, and technicians.

  • Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring project deadlines and quality standards are met.

  • Mentor and develop team members to foster technical growth and collaboration.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with other departments, including aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, QC, and race engineering, to align development goals with overall team objectives.

  • Provide regular updates to the Technical Strategy Council on project status and performance improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in NASCAR or an equivalent high-performance racing series.

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of race car subsystems (e.g., suspension, powertrain, aerodynamics, electronics).

  • Engineering Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., NX, SolidWorks) and test rig development.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a focus on root cause analysis and solutions development.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage and motivate a technical team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.

  • Self-Starter: Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and a proactive approach to challenges.

Location: Statesville, NC

Pay: Competitive, commensurate with experience
