LEGACY MOTOR CLUB is a professional motor racing club fielding two full-time entries in the NASCAR Cup Series for John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones, based in Statesville, N.C., and co-owned by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and Knighthead Capital Management, LLC, with NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty “The King” as a Club Ambassador.

Compensation: $70-85k DOE

Position Summary

We are looking for a proactive, organized, and strategic Public Relations Manager to lead the day-to-day media relations efforts for the team, drivers, and partners. This position plays a critical role in creating and maintaining positive relationships with media, influencers, the league, and partners; managing team storytelling; and driving comprehensive PR strategy, crisis management, and partner visibility. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, has exceptional writing skills (AP Style), demonstrates a strong work ethic, and can confidently work with high-profile athletes, celebrities, and executives while meeting tight deadlines and adapting to evolving demands.

Key Responsibilities

PR STRATEGY & PARTNER SUPPORT

  • Develop and manage a year-long PR plan for drivers, team, and partners.

  • Support partner initiatives with strategic messaging, editorial calendars, and media outreach.

  • Build relationships with league officials, media, and influencers.

CONTENT CREATION & STORYTELLING

  • Write and distribute press releases, race notes, quotes, and social copy.

  • Pitch media to drive coverage and publicity.

  • Produce weekly materials to support team news and announcements.


EVENT & RACE WEEKEND MANAGEMENT

  • Organize and manage media appearances and obligations for drivers and team.

  • Coordinate with partners and league officials on race weekend PR activities.

  • Travel to up to 30 race weekends annually.

REPORTING & SCHEDULING

  • Track and report on media coverage and campaign success.

  • Maintain athlete and partner media schedules and deliverables.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT & PROFESSIONALISM

  • Cultivate and maintain trusted media and league relationships.

  • Serve as PR lead in crisis communications, ensuring professionalism at all times.

TRAVEL & FLEXIBILITY

  • Willingness to travel as required for on-site support.

  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet critical project deadlines.

  • Maintain flexibility to accommodate last-minute changes and urgent project needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in public relations or media relations (sports industry preferred).

  • Strong expertise in AP style writing, storytelling, and media pitching.

  • Proven ability to manage crisis communications and operate with a high degree of discretion.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with high-profile individuals.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple complex schedules and projects simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly, think creatively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 30 race weekends per year) and work nights, weekends, and irregular hours as required.
