MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY | RACE RECAP

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK | No. 42 SKIP BARBER RACING SCHOOL TOYOTA CAMRY XSE

START: 29th

FINISH: 36th

POINTS: 19th

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - (April 7, 2024) -- Erik Jones led the way for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB at Martinsville this weekend with a 12th-place finish. John Hunter Nemechek suffered a mechanical failure with four laps to go relegating him to a 36th place finish.

Kyle Larson won Stage 1, Denny Hamlin won Stage 2, and William Byron took the checkered flag for the win at Martinsville.

Below is how the race played out for the drivers of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB.

42 RECAP: John Hunter Nemechek started the event in the No. 42 Skip Barber Racing School Toyota Camry in 29th position and dealt with an ill-handling race car for most of the day. He said he was extremely loose and a majority of the event was run under green flag conditions. Nemechek went a lap down early - as many other cars in the field were overtaken by the leaders on the 0.526-mile track - and the team was unable to regain track position or the free pass.

Crew chief Ben Beshore made some significant changes to the No. 42 but the team again was trapped a lap down and then became two laps down due to long green flag runs.

With four to go, Nemechek hit the wall causing a significant fire in the No. 42 resulting in a DNF. He was evaluated and released from the infield care center.

NEXT RACE: The NASCAR Cup Series returns to short-track night racing next weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Race coverage next Sunday is set for 3:00 p.m. ET on FOX SPORTS 1, with radio coverage on MRN  and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90)

ERIK JONES | No. 43 FAMILY DOLLAR TOYOTA CAMRY XSE

START: 17th

FINISH: 12th

POINTS: 20th

RECAP:  Erik Jones started the event 17th and early on said the Family Dollar Toyota Camry was extremely tight and barely drivable.

Crew chief Dave Elenz made significant changes to the No. 43 throughout the race and Jones chipped away from 18th to 12th making his way forward in the field.

With four laps to go, a caution came out and the No. 43 team opted to pit for four tires. They maintained a 12th-place finish and as a result, picked up two positions in the points standings.

NEXT RACE: The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway next weekend. Race coverage next Sunday is on FOX, with radio coverage on PRN  and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
